Dancing is Like Dreaming with Your Feet

This morning just so happens to be my birthday and a new journey for me. I found this quote today on Google. It said, “Dancing is Like Dreaming with Your Feet.” I think this is a pretty accurate description of the past year and where we have come in such a short period of time. In the beginning of 2013 a simple purchase from Godaddy and a URL for .99 cents was going to change my life forever. In the beginning stages I thought I would be starting a small solo business to make some extra money so I could continue to dance competitively and help with extra expenses. With over 10 years of people management I was ready to just take it easy and work alone. I trained to be a ballroom dance teacher and had also spent over a year working in a ballroom dance studio in Chicago.

After my first year the ballroom dance studio was sold and I headed back to a corporate job in staffing. It was probably the toughest job I ever had. I worked all day long then I would hustle over to Michigan Ave, the West Loop, or Lincoln Park and teach as many dance lessons as I could. So my day started at 6:00 am and I finished many nights around 9:00 pm or 10:00 pm. At my one year anniversary the staffing company and myself parted ways. I decided that I had this one opportunity right this moment to dream with my feet. With 100% percent of my focus and effort being put into my business, who knew what was possible?

Every day I get to work with Wedding Clients who are preparing for their First Dance. They are also learning that dancing is like dreaming with your feet. I get the same satisfaction out of each and every lesson I teach. My students have impacted my life in such a positive way,
I couldn’t imagine myself doing anything different right now. I have a friend that repeatedly says that you are exactly where you’re suppose to be. I would have to agree 100%. Its only just the beginning for me.

I feel so blessed to have one my best friends in the world by my side each and everyday. She is one of the most respected ballroom dance professionals in the industry and brings joy and passion to each and every student. She is one who taught me how to dream with my feet. Tommye Giacchino is a great friend and mentor.

On June 15th, my mother’s birthday, I received the keys for my first retail business space, a permanent home to call my own. I sat for hours staring out the window on Michigan Ave, mentally preparing myself for the months ahead. For some they would say I got a set keys to my business for me I just got the keys to the city.
