Olympic Gold Medalists – Thank Ballroom Dance
United States Ice Dancers Meryl Davis and Charlie white won gold in Ice Dancing this Winter becoming the first US Olympic couple to win a gold in the sport. The routine was danced to music from My Fair Lady and was inspired by the ballroom dances Quick Step and Foxtrot. The Olympic Gold medalists thank ballroom dance training for helping them get to the gold!
In preparation for the Olympics the couple not only spent countless hours on the ice but also sought out help from Dancing with the Stars‘ Derek Hough. Ice dancing and Ballroom dancing have always been very similar performance/competition styles and it is not uncommon for ice dancers to trade in their skates for heals as a part of their training. In fact Windy City Ballroom instructor Tommye Giacchino has coached many ice dancers through out the years.
