Windy City Wedding Dance and partners, Dance with Panache and Wava Media, attended the 3rd Annual Northwestern Women’s Volleyball Banquet. We were excited to learn more about Northwestern Women’s Volleyball Team. We donated wedding dance, ballroom dance, salsa lessons, and a photo shoot for the silent auction. We were all tickled to death that all of our donated items got bids. We had an amazing time bidding on silent auction items and talking to all the amazing staff, friends, players, and alumni of Northwestern University.
It brought back a lot of memories seeing these amazing student athletes and hearing about all of their accomplishments in 2013. As a former student athlete, I remember the difficult travel schedule, long practice hour, the early morning weight training, and the academic schedule. Somehow, someway we were always able to push through rising to each and every occasion. I was blown away when the athletic department announced that the Northwestern Women’s Volleyball team won an award from the Big Ten Conference for having an over all GPA of 3.5. What a talented group of ladies.
The banquet included a silent auction, a live auction, wonderful live entertainment, and an amazing meal. We got to hear from several players on the team as they stood up to announce some of the winners. Northwestern’s Senior, Stephanie Holthus, was skyped in from Puerto Rico. Even though we didn’t get to meet her in person she did a phenomenal job painting a picture of what her 4 years were like being apart of the Wildcat Team. Stephanie is currently in Puerto Rica playing in a professional league. The timing was ideal for her to move straight into such an amazing opportunity.
We also got to meet some of the club team players. They are referred to as the Junior Wildcats. At times it was hard to tell the girls apart. The Northwestern Volleyball players play an instrumental role in the helping the club team and training them to be the next stars in collegiate volleyball.
I had the pleasure of meeting the wife of Coach Chan, Maren Chan, back in March of 2013. It just so happened we had more in common than we knew. We were both apart of Marshall University Athletics. It was Maren who introduced me to Coach Chan. I truly admire these 2 people and loved listening to Coach Chan talk about his team at the Banquet. He was very proud of his team and gave us all a few tips.
Believe me when I say, I look forward to getting a hold of these girls and teaching the Northwestern Women’s Volleyball team to ballroom dance. They would be magnificent American Smooth Dancers. Athletes tend to pick up the dancing fairly easy. Correct foot positions and weight change are a big part of ballroom dance. We shift weight often in the sports. Its very competitive on the ballroom dance floor.
We are looking forward to seeing the Northwestern Women’s Volleyball team play in 2014.
