Healthy Lifestyle Wedding Fitness

Healthy lifestyle habits are something you owe yourself and your life partner you’re about to marry. Preparing for a wedding is exciting and yet exhausting, but don’t get lost in the wedding planning. Make sure you are preparing for a union and you are bringing a healthy lifestyle with you.

As I watch my parents age it’s very clear to me that health is a big part of the golden years and the golden years are not so golden when your health is poor.

Fast forward your life 30 years down the road. Close your eyes and pretend you’re overweight. Imagine waking up each morning having to test your blood sugar levels and give your self a daily shot. Your skin is so bruised with deep shades of purple and yellow from having to stab yourself daily with insulin. Your stomach looks like you’ve been in the ring with Mike Tyson and you didn’t win. Imagine trying to go on a diet as a diabetic. You are already restricted and now your adding a layer of complication. How many people just throw in the towel because it’s just so hard? You never feel good anymore and don’t have any energy. The simplest tasks seem almost impossible. Imagine driving alone and having your blood sugar drop so low you can’t see, you can’t hear, you pass out almost taking your own life and the person you hit in a head on car collision. You think your depressed because you are overweight. You change nothing because you still have your mind and your eyesight until…….the diabetes starts taking your vision and your limbs. Do you get the picture?

What about those plans to travel the world in our years of retirement with our spouse?

Don’t try to break a 30 year habit of living unhealthy. You can start today by making small changes one at time. First things first talk to a Doctor. Eating healthy and exercising are 2 different topics. Make your first change within your eating habits and then you can start to work in the exercise category.

I can’t preach this last part enough. Find an exercise that you would consider hidden fitness. You cannot sustain a lifestyle change with activities you hate. For me it’s ballroom dance. I love to dance and I look forward to dancing. It never feels like work.
